Dear Friend,

The New Globe Theater needs your help. If we do not act now, we will forever lose the opportunity to create an inspiring cultural icon in New York Harbor!

On Governors Island sits a dilapidated military fortification ... and it happens to have the identical blueprint as Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. We want to restore the fort and re-imagine the open courtyard as a vibrant performing arts center, however the National Park Service is about to disallow this proposal.

Step 1
TAKE ACTION TODAY!
Tell the National Park Service to approve the New Globe.

Click here to urge the NPS to support this historically sensitive, culturally thrilling, and educationally valuable adaptive reuse of the fort. It takes only a few seconds to forward the statement.

Step 2 TELL A FRIEND!
Mobilize your "friends, Romans, Countrymen."

Help save the New Globe plans by submitting a public comment by March 18th! Your simple act could make the New Globe a reality! Even if you've previously written, please e-mail again today.

100,000 kids attend the Globe's Education Center every year!

Click here to spread the word. The National Park Service stresses that the monument belongs to the American people - so let us make sure that they can't ignore what we want!

In the spirit of placing the Statue of Liberty onto the 1811 Fort Wood, let us transform this decaying military fort into a vibrant cultural beacon.

The New Globe proposal has received the backing of hundreds of individuals and organizations, from Senators Clinton and Schumer to Congressman Nadler and Community Board #1, from actors (such as Al Pacino, Kevin Kline, Mark Rylance, Susan Sarandon, Ralph Fiennes, Julianne Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Winslet and Philip Seymour Hoffman) to directors (Sam Mendes, Mike Nichols, Woody Allen, and Sir Peter Hall). Not only have pillars of New York's preservation community embraced the proposal (e.g., Prof. Ken Jackson, Kent Barwick, Mike Wallace), but also a diverse range of individuals from war veterans to acting students to G.I. army brats. For more information, see www.newglobe.org.

I ask you to join me and all of our supporters in urging the National Park Service to be visionary and imaginative!

Your action today truly makes a difference in our ongoing efforts to create a new cultural destination in New York Harbor. I hope to see you at opening night!

Sincerely,

Dr. Barbara Romer
